As a barrister, broadcaster and one of the country’s top comedy writers, Clive Coleman has the unique ability to write and deliver hilarious material on just about any subject. His years in court, working to a brief, combined with his skill in writing topical comedy to tight deadlines for some of the country’s best known television and radio comedy shows, allow Clive to specifically tailor his material to the needs of the company or organisation he’s speaking to.
Clive Coleman has delivered after dinner speeches to an array of UK based and multi-national companies, trade and professional bodies. As a conference host and link presenter, he has hosted numerous awards ceremonies where his combination of performing and writing skills have enabled him to write and deliver tailored ‘industry specific’ links that keep the pace up and the focus sharp and witty. Clive has co-hosted events and awards ceremonies with celebrities including Joanna Lumley and Graham Norton, as well as writing the scripts for awards ceremonies hosted by the likes of Jonathan Ross.
In May 2004 Clive took up the role of presenter of BBC Radio 4’s flagship legal analysis programme, ‘Law In Action’.

For nine years, Clive Coleman was Senior and then Principal Lecturer at the Inns of Court School of Law, where he helped pioneer ‘skills training’ for barristers. He has lectured widely and written on advocacy, communication and the art of persuasion. This experience has enabled Clive to successfully apply a variety of inter-active educational methods, including the training techniques of the courtroom, to meeting the demands of selling, motivation and persuasion in business.
Clive’s years teaching young lawyers how to present cases and argument in court has given him a unique insight into the components necessary to put together a coherent and convincing presentation. He says ‘Persuasive presentation relies significantly upon the level of self-confidence an individual has of him or herself. If you expect, or even half expect to sound halting and timid, you will. But with a modicum of ability, the application of some tried and trusted techniques, and some supervised practice, you can rapidly build the level of self-confidence you have of yourself. You can persuade.’.
Clive focuses on the physical aspects of presentational speaking, posture, breathing, pacing, eye contact, as well as the reliance upon and integration of notes, prompts and audio-visual aids. ‘When teaching advocacy I would sometimes get a student who would all but crawl into the room and literally go and hide in a corner. That person was hoping to become a barrister! It was hugely rewarding to see that, with the aid of some basic postural and speaking techniques, within a few weeks they were on their feet presenting fluently.’.
