Awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Years Honours List 1992.

Since retiring from international competition, Garry has become BBC Sport’s "the voice of rowing" and was the principal rowing commentator at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. He presided over Sir Steve Redgrave’s monumental fifth Gold Medal and brought the nation to it’s feet in the final of the Men’s 8, the first gold of it’s kind since 1912.

Rowing is Britain’s most successful sport, and continues to be so. Garry has been at the heart of that success. Passionate about sport, serious about business , Garry now shares the secrets of his (and the sport’s) success (Both as an Olympic Gold Medallist and BBC commentator) through moving, inspirational presentations/speeches to businesses across the United Kingdom and Europe with video footage of some great sporting moments.

In his spare time, Garry is also a practising barrister.
