Geoff Cooke

Geoff Cooke played mainly as a Centre/Fly-half 1962-72 and captained his Club and his County. Coach to Bradford RFC 1973-75. Coach to Yorkshire Rugby Football Union 1975-79, then Chairman of Selectors from 1980 to 1985. North of England Selector from 1979 to 1985 then Manager/Coach 1985-87... two successive Divisional Championship titles.

Manager of the England Rugby Union Team from October 1987 to April 1994. He led England in 49 major international matches including two Tours to Australia/Fiji and one to Argentina . England achieved unparalleled success during this period including two successive Grand Slams (European Championship) in 1991 & 1992; reached the final of the World Cup in 1991, and were the winners of the inaugural Rugby World Cup Sevens in 1993.

After a brief retirement from the game he was tempted back into rugby at Bedford Rugby Club, where in just two seasons he guided them from the bottom to the top of the second division and gained promotion to the premier league for 1998-99. He left Bedford in December 1998 due to contract problems

Awarded the OBE for services to Rugby Football in June 1992 he was Manager of the 1993 British Lions rugby union tour to New Zealand

Author of "Rugby Union" - 1981 EP Sport, & "Skilful Rugby Union" - 1991 A&C Black), and numerous articles on sports coaching and performance development.

Geoff Cooke is an entertaining motivational and after-dinner speaker with years of experience on the sporting circuit at Sportsman's Dinners; Rugby Clubs, Golf and Cricket Club functions.
