Joanna Lumley

Joanna Lumley after dinner speakerJoanna Lumley was born in Kashmir, India in 1946 and came to England as a young girl to complete her schooling at St Mary's in Sussex.

She spent three years as a photographic model finally becoming a house model for the late Jean Muir. Her early films included 'Some Girls Do', 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service', 'The Trail Of The Pink Panther', 'The Curse Of The Pink Panther', 'The Satanic Rights Of Dracula' and 'Shirley Valentine'. Most recent films include 'James And The Giant Peach', 'Innocent Lies', 'Funny Bones' and the TV film 'Cold Comfort Farm'.

Early television work included 'Steptoe & Son', 'The Persuaders', 'General Hospital' and 'Coronation Street'. She played 'Purdy' in 24 episodes of 'The New Avengers' and recorded 34 episodes of 'Sapphire & Steel' both programmes of which are constantly being transmitted world-wide. Her experiences of living alone on a desert island were filmed for a BBC Special 'Girl Friday'.

However, Joanna is probably best known on television for her hugely popular role as 'Patsy in the award winning series 'Absolutely fabulous' for the BBC. She has also filmed two series of 'Class Act' for Carlton TV playing the upper crust 'Kate Swift'.

Joanna returned to the theatre appearing for six weeks at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith in a production of 'The Letter'. Other theatre engagements includes a tour of 'Private Lives', 'Noel and Gertie', 'Hedda Gabler', 'Blithe Spirit', 'An Ideal Husband' to mention but a few.

She has written three books - 'Stare Back and Smile', 'Forces Sweethearts' and 'Girly Friday' from the BBC television special.

She was awarded an OBE in the 1995 New Years Honours and is married to the conductor Stephen Barlow where they live in London.

Joanna is available for personal appearances, dinners and awards, a short after dinner speech followed by an extended question and answer session.  A delightful evening's entertainment.
