Kate Allenby

Olympic Bronze Medalist

Since 1994 Kate Allenby has been arguably the leading and most charismatic pentathlete in the world. She has long been at the forefront of the sport, winning two junior World Championship medals, the 1997 European title, 1998 World Cup final and Olympic bronze in Sydney. There is little doubt about her courage and determination. Kate won a World junior medal having been treated for serious burns two days before the event. And in Sydney she competed with a muscle tear in her shoulder when most would have withdrawn from the event. Born in 1974 she spent her early life in Australia before returning to Devon where she discovered a love for sport. She competed for pony club before moving up to pentathlon and has also fenced for England. An engaging character with forthright opinions on the future of sport have made her one of the most liked and respected sportswomen resulting in her being voted onto the British Olympic Association’s executive committee.

Other Sports: Fencing. She was a member of the England team for the 1998 Commonwealth Games. She won women's epee individual and team bronze medals.
